The ATP Tour is set for a major expansion, with Saudi Arabia confirmed as the host of a new Masters 1000 tournament starting in 2028.

The event, backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) through its sports arm, SURJ Sports Investment, marks the first addition to the Masters 1000 category since its creation in 1990.

Scheduled to take place over one week with a 56-player draw, the Saudi Masters is expected to be held in February, joining elite tournaments like Indian Wells, Miami, Rome, and Paris.

The move underlines Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in global tennis, following its successful hosting of the WTA Finals and the Next Gen ATP Finals.

ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi hailed the development as a “proud moment” for the sport, emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to both professional tennis and grassroots development.

The new event will also feature a youth program in partnership with the Saudi Tennis Federation to promote inclusivity and nurture local talent.

SURJ Chairman Bandar Bin Mogren described the move as “a major step forward” for tennis in the region, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s status as an emerging global sports hub.

With record investments and world-class facilities on the horizon, the 2028 Saudi Masters could redefine tennis’ future in the Middle East and beyond.
