Ronaldo Backs Amorim but Says ‘Miracles Won’t Save Manchester United’

Cristiano Ronaldo has defended Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, saying the Portuguese coach “is not going to do miracles” amid the club’s ongoing struggles in the Premier League.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, the 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward said that while Amorim is “doing his best,” United remain “not in a good path.”

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024, guided United to a 15th-place finish last season, their lowest in over five decades and endured a shaky start to the current campaign before climbing to eighth after recent improvements.

“What are you going to do? Miracles? Miracles are impossible,” Ronaldo remarked. “We say in Portugal, ‘miracles only happen in Fatima,’ and he’s not going to do miracles.”

Since Amorim’s appointment, United have spent nearly £250 million on new signings under the Ineos-led football structure. However, Ronaldo believes some players “don’t understand what Manchester United really is.”

“Manchester United is still in my heart,” said the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. “But let’s be honest, they’re not in a good place. It’s not just about the coach or the players. The club needs change.”

Ronaldo, who won seven trophies during his first spell at Old Trafford, added that he’s preparing for life after football, saying, “Retirement will be tough, but I’ll be ready.”
