Andreeva and Zverev Crowned Champions as Roland Garros Delivers New Heroes

The 2026 French Open ended with two breakthrough singles champions and memorable performances across the doubles events, marking a refreshing new chapter at Roland Garros.

Mirra Andreeva announced her arrival among tennis’ elite by defeating surprise finalist Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to claim her maiden Grand Slam title.

The 19-year-old Russian overcame early nerves and difficult windy conditions before taking control with aggressive baseline play.

Chwalinska, ranked No. 114 and only the second qualifier to reach a Grand Slam final, fought bravely but could not sustain her remarkable fairytale run. Andreeva’s triumph made her the youngest French Open women’s champion since Monica Seles in 1992.

A day later, Alexander Zverev finally captured the major title that had long eluded him. The German defeated Italy’s Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), and 6-1 in a tense five-set final to secure his first Grand Slam crown.

Having lost three previous major finals, Zverev showed resilience to overcome both Cobolli’s challenge and his own nerves. For Cobolli, despite the defeat, the tournament marked a significant breakthrough in his career.

In women’s doubles, top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend lifted the trophy after a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic. The pair claimed their third Grand Slam title together, with Siniakova extending her impressive tally to 11 women’s doubles majors.

The men’s doubles crown remained with Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, who successfully defended their title by beating Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten 6-4, 6-2.

The experienced duo completed an outstanding tournament without dropping a set, underlining their status as one of the game’s most formidable partnerships.

Roland Garros 2026 will be remembered for fresh champions, emotional milestones, and the emergence of a new generation ready to take centre stage.
