Italy carved its name into tennis history on Sunday, lifting a third consecutive Davis Cup title after a commanding performance against Spain in Bologna.
Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli delivered the decisive victories, sealing a triumph that places Italy alongside the great Davis Cup dynasties of the past.
Berrettini set the tone in the opening rubber, producing a composed and clinical display to defeat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3, 6-4. Relying on a dominant serve, firing 13 aces and refusing to face a single break point, the 29-year-old extended his unbeaten run in Davis Cup matches to 11, a streak dating back to 2022.
The pressure then shifted to 23-year-old Flavio Cobolli, who endured a shaky start against Jaume Munar, losing seven of the first eight games. But Cobolli showed remarkable resilience.
He steadied himself in the second set, breaking early to stay alive and ultimately edging out the tiebreak. In the deciding set, Cobolli found his moment in the 11th game, securing a crucial break before serving out a gritty 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 victory that sent the home crowd into delirium.
With this win, Italy becomes the first nation since the United States (1968–1972) to claim three straight Davis Cup titles. It also marks another chapter in a remarkable season for Italian tennis, achieved even without top stars Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti.
Spain, appearing in its first final since winning in 2019, fell short despite strong earlier wins over Czechia and Germany. But on Italian soil, with an inspired team and a roaring crowd, the momentum belonged entirely to the hosts.
Italy’s golden run continues, firmly cementing them as the dominant force in today’s Davis Cup era.
