Resuming deep in trouble, England’s hopes rested heavily on Stokes, who showed trademark grit in a stubborn knock of 50 from 152 deliveries. He found brief support from Will Jacks, but Neser’s relentless accuracy eventually broke the resistance.
Once Stokes fell to a sharp catch by Alex Carey, England’s innings quickly folded for 241, leaving Australia a modest target of 65.
The chase was a formality. Despite Jofra Archer generating sharp pace and extracting some late movement, the hosts remained composed.
