Liverpool manager Arne Slot is set to hold face-to-face talks with Mohamed Salah amid growing uncertainty over the forward’s future, following his omission from the squad for the Champions League trip to Inter Milan.
Salah, 33, has been at the centre of attention after being benched for three consecutive matches before being left out entirely for the 1-0 win in Milan.
His public frustration after last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United only fuelled speculation, as reports of interest from the Saudi Pro League quickly gathered pace.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brighton, Slot confirmed discussions were imminent. “I will have a conversation with Mo this morning, and that will determine how things look tomorrow,” he said, while adding he has “no reason not to want him to stay” at the club.
Slot revealed that talks between Salah’s representatives and Liverpool officials have already taken place, stressing that squad decisions remain his responsibility, albeit with regular internal dialogue.
Salah is due to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations next week, leaving Liverpool navigating a delicate period both on and off the pitch.
With the team sitting mid-table and Saudi suitors circling, the outcome of Slot’s meeting with the Egyptian could prove pivotal in shaping Liverpool’s season and possibly the end of an era at Anfield.
