India delivered a commanding all-round performance in Lucknow, crushing Afghanistan by 170 runs in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The foundation of the victory was laid by a breathtaking 224-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan.
After an early setback with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal, Gill and Rohit Sharma steadied the innings before Rashid Khan removed the Indian captain for 48. What followed was a batting masterclass.
Gill was elegance personified, striking 154 off 110 balls, while Kishan rediscovered his best form with a blistering 125. The pair dominated Afghanistan’s attack, mixing calculated aggression with flawless strokeplay as India surged past 400.
Although Afghanistan fought back late through Nangeyalia Kharote’s four-wicket haul and Rashid’s three scalps, India still posted an imposing 402.
Chasing a daunting target, Afghanistan never looked capable of mounting a serious challenge. Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided an early spark with 41, while Rahmat Shah battled hard for a patient 79. However, the required rate kept climbing as India’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure.
Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each. Debutant Prince Yadav also impressed, picking up two wickets and showing promise with his pace and control.
Afghanistan’s innings lacked the urgency needed for such a steep chase and eventually folded for 232 in 44.3 overs.
The gulf between the sides was evident throughout the contest. India combined explosive batting with disciplined bowling, while Afghanistan struggled to match their intensity. For the hosts, it was a complete performance and a deserved series triumph.
