Barcelona Close In on Anthony Gordon Signing After €70m Agreement with Newcastle

Anthony Gordon has arrived in Barcelona ahead of completing a blockbuster move from Newcastle United to FC Barcelona in a deal reportedly worth €70 million plus add-ons.

The England international landed in Catalonia on Thursday to undergo medical tests before signing a long-term contract with the La Liga champions.

Barcelona moved quickly to finalise the transfer before the upcoming World Cup, where Gordon is expected to feature for England national football team.

The 25-year-old enjoyed another impressive campaign with Newcastle, attracting interest from several European giants, including Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC.

However, Gordon reportedly prioritised a move to Spain once Barcelona intensified negotiations this week.

Sporting director Deco played a major role in pushing the deal through, with meetings taking place both in England and Spain over recent weeks.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is believed to view Gordon as a key addition to a dynamic frontline already led by Lamine Yamal.

The signing also raises fresh questions over the future of Marcus Rashford, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona.

While the Catalan club still retain an option to sign Rashford permanently from Manchester United, Gordon’s arrival could complicate plans unless departures are made in attack.

Barcelona are also continuing their search for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski ahead of next season.
