Barcelona delivered one of their most assured performances of the season on Tuesday night, overturning an early deficit to beat Atletico Madrid 3–1 and strengthen their position at the top of LaLiga.
Atletico arrived at a partially reopened Camp Nou riding a three-month unbeaten run and looking every bit like a side capable of pushing for the title.
Their confidence showed early. In the 19th minute, Nahuel Molina’s perfectly flighted long ball sent Alex Baena racing in behind the defense, and the winger finished calmly past Joan Garcia to silence the home crowd.
But Barça grew into the game quickly. Pedri, making his first start in weeks, threaded a trademark pass through Atletico’s lines in the 26th minute. Raphinha latched onto it, rounded Jan Oblak, and rolled in the equalizer with characteristic cool. The Brazilian later admitted, “Wins like these shape a title race.”
Barcelona could have taken the lead before the break, only for Robert Lewandowski to balloon a penalty over the bar.
Yet the hosts kept pushing. Their breakthrough came in the 65th minute when a loose rebound fell kindly for Dani Olmo, who drilled a low shot into the corner. The only downside was the shoulder injury he picked up in the process.
Atletico threatened through substitute Thiago Almada, but his dazzling run ended with a miss from close range. Deep into stoppage time, Alejandro Balde’s surging run set up Ferran Torres for a simple finish, sealing Barcelona’s 3-1 win and a statement of intent in the title race.
