Chennai Super Kings continued their late-season revival with a thrilling five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru edged Mumbai Indians in a last-ball classic to climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table.
At Chennai, the evening belonged to young Urvil Patel, who produced one of the most explosive knocks of the season. Chasing 204, CSK looked under pressure before the 21-year-old unleashed a breathtaking assault, smashing 65 off just 23 balls.
His half-century came in only 13 deliveries, equalling the fastest fifty in IPL history. Urvil’s fearless hitting completely changed the momentum of the chase and electrified the Chepauk crowd.
Earlier, Josh Inglis had powered LSG to 203 with a sensational 85, attacking both pace and spin with audacious strokeplay.
However, Jamie Overton’s disciplined spell pulled CSK back into the contest during the middle overs. Shivam Dube later sealed the chase with two towering sixes in the final over.
In Raipur, RCB held their nerve in one of the most dramatic finishes of the season. Chasing 167 against Mumbai Indians on a difficult surface, Krunal Pandya anchored the innings brilliantly with 73 off 46 balls despite wickets falling regularly around him.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar had earlier rattled MI with a superb spell, removing Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in consecutive deliveries. Tilak Varma’s fighting fifty helped Mumbai recover, but their total proved just short.
The match went down to the final ball, where Rasikh Salam completed a desperate second run to give RCB a thrilling two-wicket victory and officially knock MI and LSG out of playoff contention.
