Arthur Fils capped a remarkable comeback week by defeating Andrey Rublev 6-2, 7-6(2) to win the Barcelona Open title, his first since 2024.

For much of the final, Fils looked in complete control. After settling early nerves, he powered through six straight games to take the opening set, dictating rallies with heavy groundstrokes and sharp movement on clay. The second set, however, turned into a test of composure.

Serving for the match at 5-3, Fils faltered, allowing Rublev to claw his way back. The Russian broke twice and even led 6-5, threatening a dramatic turnaround.

But just when momentum seemed lost, Fils responded with a break of his own to force a tiebreak. There, he rediscovered his authority, racing through seven straight points to seal the title.

The win marks a significant milestone for the 21-year-old, who has steadily rebuilt his form after a lengthy injury layoff. His run in Barcelona included wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Brandon Nakashima, underlining his growing confidence on tour.

In doubles, Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool lifted the trophy with a composed 6-3, 6-4 victory over Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Andrea Vavassori. The British pair controlled proceedings with strong serving and sharp net play.

For Fils, though, the spotlight remained firmly his, a statement triumph that signals his return as one of the most exciting young forces on the ATP Tour.
