The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Cricket Canada with immediate effect following serious concerns over governance and administrative failures, marking one of the most significant actions taken against a national cricket board in recent years.
The decision was announced after the ICC Board meeting in Ahmedabad, where officials reviewed allegations that have cast a shadow over cricket administration in Canada.
The suspension follows a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation documentary that raised questions about corruption, match manipulation, and alleged misconduct involving individuals linked to the governing body.
While the move represents a major setback for Cricket Canada, the ICC has taken care to shield players from the fallout. Canadian national teams will remain eligible to participate in ICC tournaments during the suspension period, ensuring that athletes are not penalised for issues beyond their control.
The ICC also confirmed that financial assistance to Cricket Canada will continue under a closely monitored funding structure. Any funds released will be restricted to approved national team programmes and overseen directly by ICC management.
To regain its membership status, Cricket Canada must meet a series of conditions aimed at improving governance, accountability, and administration. Progress will be supervised by the ICC Normalisation Committee before any reinstatement is considered.
The developments come at a crucial time for Canadian cricket, which has made notable strides on the international stage in recent years.
