Kyrgios Outplays Sabalenka in Dubai Exhibition ‘Battle of the Sexes’

Nick Kyrgios claimed a straight-sets victory over women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a much-hyped “Battle of the Sexes” exhibition match in Dubai, winning 6-3, 6-3 under modified rules on Sunday.

Played at the Coca-Cola Arena, the contest was designed to level the field, with Kyrgios allowed only one serve and Sabalenka competing on a slightly reduced court.

Despite the adjustments, the Australian’s variety, touch and experience proved decisive against the four-time Grand Slam champion.

Kyrgios, currently ranked outside the top 600 after an injury-hit spell, controlled the tempo with clever drop shots and well-disguised serves.

Sabalenka showed flashes of her trademark power and energy, even enjoying moments where she appeared to have Kyrgios under physical pressure, particularly in the second set.

The Belarusian briefly led 3-1 before Kyrgios reeled off five games in a row, tightening his game at key moments and capitalising on unforced errors.

After sealing the win, both players shared a warm exchange at the net, underlining the exhibition’s friendly spirit.

While comparisons to the historic Billie Jean King–Bobby Riggs match were inevitable, the Dubai showdown was more spectacle than statement. Still, it delivered competitive tennis, lively debate, and plenty of entertainment for fans.
