Rohit Sharma has climbed to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time in his career, following stellar performances in the three-match series against Australia.

The Indian opener struck 73 in Adelaide and followed it up with a match-winning unbeaten 121 in Sydney, earning him the Player of the Series award despite India losing the series 2-1.

Rohit’s consistent run has propelled him from third to first place, overtaking Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and India’s captain Shubman Gill.

He now sits at 781 rating points, 17 ahead of Zadran, who briefly made history by becoming the first Afghan batter to top the ODI charts before Rohit’s surge. Gill is placed third with 745 points.

This marks a career milestone for Rohit, who had previously reached a best of No. 2 back in July 2018. India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer also gained ground, moving up to ninth after scoring a fluent 61 in the second ODI.

Among bowlers, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood rose two spots to eighth, while Adam Zampa climbed to 12th.

For India, spinners Axar Patel and Washington Sundar made notable gains, jumping to 31st and 73rd respectively.

With this achievement, Rohit cements his legacy as one of modern cricket’s most consistent and dynamic one-day batters.
