Spin and Nerve: KKR Dominate While Titans Edge Thriller

The IPL served up contrasting contests as Kolkata Knight Riders cruised past Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Gujarat Titans held their nerve in a tense finish against Punjab Kings.

In Hyderabad, it was spin that dictated terms. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine combined to dismantle SRH’s batting, sharing five wickets and triggering a dramatic collapse.

From a commanding 105 for 1, SRH folded for 165, undone by a surface that increasingly gripped and turned. Narine also reached the milestone of 200 IPL wickets, underlining his enduring value.

Chasing 166, KKR were clinical. Angkrish Raghuvanshi anchored the innings with a composed 59, while Ajinkya Rahane added stability. Early aggression ensured the asking rate never became a concern, and KKR sealed a comfortable seven-wicket win with ten balls to spare.

Earlier, SRH had surged through Travis Head’s explosive 61, but once he fell, momentum evaporated quickly.

In contrast, the clash between Gujarat and Punjab went down to the wire. Punjab’s recovery from 47 for 5 to 163 owed much to Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis, but the total felt slightly under par.

Gujarat’s chase was measured rather than explosive. Sai Sudharsan crafted a steady 57, keeping the innings on track. Yet late wickets tightened the contest, leaving 11 required in the final over.

Calm under pressure, Washington Sundar finished the job with a decisive six, sealing a four-wicket win.

Together, the matches highlighted two IPL truths: spin can still dominate, and no chase is ever straightforward.
